My dearest Agha,
At the limits by Marrouchi is a very comprehensive insight on Said. He tries to decipher every code in text and delves in chapters of his life to find out meanings from underneath precepts. He sees him mostly Out of Place with longings for his homeland, Palestine. Before moving to US his family relocated to Egypt and Lebanon. Pertinently the shift in axis of his ideology around years 1967-68 has a great deal to do with annexing heights of his homeland in to Surian desert, Golan, Gaza and in fluxing forces of Israel to Jordan. The event changed him entirely. Literati from Harvard and Princeton yet this demarcation compelled him uninvitingly to seek his identity. It awakened a whole new perspective to see life differently and it’s every tangent from there on perpetuated new adversaries because of plummeting ideological twist. He no longer remained encapsulated in his previous schooling vessel and unveiled his feelings for home, Palestine, started a strife to search himself, juxtaposition life and inner self. It led him to curb his contours of writing, to reach out for his true inner voice in glimmer denials of criticism at speech with befriended life fellows, controlling, masquerading, and concealing their motives disguised as intellectuals by ploys of pomp and power. His receptiveness adumbrated to ascend a path of purity despite of all threats of violence. I guess his horizons widened but on purveyors of well meant intentions. The writer also explicates Said’s criticism in twilight of Melting Pot Metaphor of 1960’s intended by the government to make Africans subordinate and integrate into structure and society of America. Prasad would have thought segregating in to a social system of US but Marrouchi however seems to advocate that undaunted polemic never melted and instead of averting personalities, it surfaced to augmented ethnic minorities against oppressive credos greatly preponderated by contested politics. Perhaps it is this chain of criticism regardless of being in state of opposition perches any country and to dominate itself on a higher aptitude compared to other nations. So in a critical appeal it is the very criticism which is meant to oppose turns in to a paradox. What is meant to blow lore of adversaries becomes paradigmatic dichotomy itself driving the silent gambits of authority to dominate. I will exemplify my theory, my emails and poems are all but texts embedded by emotional and intellectual impulse, driven by desires, circumstances in books prompting me to write but it is being read by you in an event after my time of having written it. So our time zones are different but reading turns the very text to exude in your peripherals being alive once again whereas my thoughts might be at rest or searching some other ulterior motive. Now the meaning within my text in your present time causes the objects around you to move and thus causality instigates movement. It is only when exegesis is given by you among your friends that this very text is brought into your current time frame and deemed only as a thing of the past. However, reading my text would let you disengage from events of your social activity simultaneously. So purpose of which is to resolute a dialogue by criticism on my previously held doctrine in fact starts to dominate my text with a sense of initiative imposition rather force of authority which is why a nation that is more susceptible to open criticism tends to dominate. The exchange of text between two persons can also dominate the other by no speech at all because when silence is spoken it recites authority over written text of speaker. So no response is also a response in itself but not until it is spoken from the other end. Where am I?
Al Mustapha also reserves Said on a vantage stand of incriminating Bill within gates of felony. An evil genius of a James Bond movie personifying incarnation over coat self obsessed with a power to control people by insinuating lives with wretched intellectual plagiarism hampering right growth. So undertones have all different connotations in mayhem of reflective consternation ingratiating a whole further contemplation.
Retrospectively, imperialistic power in third world countries impregnate through different channels. By contradicting the history, subaltern forces of culture and politics, whispering chimes of freedom. Among these three, subaltern allows west to monitor the third world and native middle class plays the underhand in monosyllables of revolution. This is the area Said critically tries to examine through culture and politics inducing to arouse them from dogmatic slumber.
Said also describes how writing essay is opposite of poetry which is working on images. The essayist defines by specifying objects. I have felt being part of this plight before having read Said. Maybe it is time to improvise. I will try to contain my pen on poetry seldom meanwhile speed reading as before but jolting pointers on topics so that once the book has finished I can have a slick skim over those points, think, reflect and write over it. I can be wrong at my attempt but then again intentions are always unknown till they are acted.
Lots of care,
Your loving Son
